Fire engineering started soon after the introduction of BCA96. Managing Director, Dr Paul Clancy was involved with projects that led to its introduction, Draft National Building Fire Safety Systems Code and Fire Code Reform in the 1990’s – working with Victoria University, BHP-Research, CSIRO, University of Technology Sydney, Scientific Services Laboratory and Lincoln and Scott. He left Victoria University in the early 2000’s to practice fire engineering from his favourite home, the Gold Coast.
Southeast Queensland (SEQ) is one of the fast-growing regions in the country, particularly after COVID lockdowns which have caused people around the country to seek a better lifestyle. The region has won the hosting of the 2032 Olympics assuring huge growth in Brisbane. The Gold Coast has 100 high rises at various stages of development.
Sotera aims to service the growth. It has currently expanded to ten fire engineers with offices in the Gold Coast and Brisbane under Directors Glenn Hamilton and Dirk van der Walt to assure timely and available service close to projects in the region. The Brisbane office has now been running for 2 years. Our engineers cover a broad background of engineering disciplines. Glenn was an executive fire engineer in the Fire Brigade, Ireland. Dirk has previously practiced in both the UK and South Africa. Half of our engineers have full professional qualifications and registrations, and we can deliver projects nationally.
The offices are well staffed and skilled to service our clients. Our staff have strong fundamental skills and knowledge of aims in the development of fire engineering and its pragmatic application. We inform clients and undertake solutions appropriate to approval risks as required; and liaise with all stakeholders and professionals involved.
